The preparation and performance of LLDPE/EVA/Mg(OH)2 composites (1)

Polyolefin not only has excellent electrical and mechanical properties, but also comes from a wide range of sources, is easy to process and consumes less energy in production. But polyhydrocarbon material also has its obvious shortcomings, such as poor flame retardant performance, it is a flammable material. When use it as cable and wire material, due to the heat generated by the voltage, it is easy to cause fire, which leads to inestimable loss of human life and property.

Magnesium hydroxide, as a kind of green flame retardant with wide source, low price and good flame retardant, is often used in flame retardant polyolefin materials. By adding MDH as flame retardant into polyolefin material, it can not only improve the flame retardant, but also has the function of smoke suppression, high filling, lower the cost. Due to the high loading of MDH shall influence the mechanical property of the material. In order to balance the mechanical properties and flame retardant, micro-encapsulation red phosphorus is applied as a synergy flame retardant. micro-encapsulation red phosphorus is stable, less volatile, has long-lasting flame retardant performance of red phosphorus and will not generate toxic gas.

1.1 The compound of MDH

A certain mass of magnesium hydroxide and micro-encapsulated red phosphorus were weighed and placed in a vacuum drying oven, first dry 12 hours under 80℃, then put them into high speed blending machine to mixing evenly. After that put them into vacuum oven dry and standby.

1.2 The preparation of LLDPE/EVA MDH composite

Placing EVA, LLDPE into vacuum drying oven, drying 12 hours under 60℃, then put them into high speed blending machine in proportion for 3 minutes to blend evenly. Then add compound MDH and other additives into the blending machine, and extruding via twin screw extruder, then pelleting, drying and prepare standard spline in injection machine.
